Tiga - Woke

Uno che non passa inosservato da queste parti è Tiga.

Direttamente dalle sue parole, così descrive 'Woke'

“Woke is a song about freedom, specifically my freedom. About me, at the end of the earth, pushed towards a final act of emancipation: throwing my phone into the sea, and watching it sink.”

“People may have a hard time empathizing with a successful DJ, or anyone who associates an annoying buzzword with anything approaching enlightenment. But I don’t think it’s that hard to relate to feeling like you’ve entered into a lopsided bargain with a magic box that is more or less designed to hack its way into your self-image. Call it an empty gesture, but as I hurled my phone into the water, it was very much an instance of facing up to something I knew wasn’t good for me, and finding some sense of release, if only for a moment.”

Tiga - Eye Luv U

Una presenza fissa sul blog è Tiga, dj/produttore canadese le cui tracce sono sempre molto interessanti.
Eravamo rimasti all'album dell'anno scorso, ma Tiga non si ferma mai. Per questa prima release 2017 firmata Turbo Recordings ha collaborato con i Paranoid Android.

Così parla Tiga di 'Eye Luv U':

"The title came to me while I was playing a pyramid that had been converted into a multi-purpose event space. The hieroglyphics over what is now the coat check made me imagine a world in which pictures could mean words and words could mean anything. The thing about wordplay is that it’s fascinating to conceive of different realities informed by different systems of meaning, and how each reality would invariably bend to vault me to the pinnacle of all possible worlds. It’s humbling, really."

Tiga annuncia il nuovo album per il 2016

Sono passati ben 6 anni dall'ultimo album di Tiga, 'Ciao!' è uscito nel 2009.
Un sacco di tempo, una vita, secondo lui stesso: "Seven years is a lifetime, especially for lifetime full-time dreamers like me. Entire fantasy worlds have been loved and lost. Restaurants have opened and closed. I’ve taken the spiritual advice of those closest to me and chosen to remain inside the present, listening and growing until there’s no choice to spring out of the box and share my gift. And that gift is the simplest of questions and answers. What is love? It is what it is, and what it is is it’s everythin".

In una breve intervista a RA riguardo l'ispirazione ha detto: "Love and romance. More romance than love. I have to love certain people; I’ll romance whomever I please. The album started club but ended somewhere else, somewhere where I am now a man. A man in a club."
E per quanto riguarda le collaborazioni: "For me, friendship and collaboration have become almost inseparable, like Batman and Crime."

Il nuovo album previsto per l'anno prossimo è anticipato dal singolo 'Don't Break My Heart'

Tiga and Boys Noize - 100

Numero speciale per la label di Tiga. Si festeggia la collaborazione con Boys Noize, dal fantasioso titolo '100' :)
A quanto pare questa è la prima volta che lavorano insieme a una traccia, anche se non mancano remix reciproci, dj set back-to-back e altre forme di collaborazione.
Prossimamente uscirà anche una traccia su BNR, l'etichetta di Alex, intitolata '808 IRAQ', che uscirà per festeggiare i 10 anni di BNR.
I festeggiamenti sono accompagnati da alcune date fra Europa e Canada in cui si esibiranno insieme.

Bugatti & Delorean

Post automobilistico per due autori completamente diversi.

Il primo spunto è 'Bugatti', ultimo singolo di Tiga, di cui è uscito un simpatico/ridicolo video con elementi anni 80, gente che dovrebbe sciare, frame a tempo di beat e un Tiga in formissima :)
Devo ammettere che avevo sottovalutato le potenzialità di questo pezzo, ma a furia di ascoltarlo e ora con questo video lo sto rivalutando. In arriva anche il remix di Eats Everything.
E si sente la mancanza di MTV (quella di adesso ha solo il marchio, ma la musica non so che fine abbia fatto).




Il secondo spunto è un altro video, quello che accompagna il brano 'Delorean Dynamite' estratto dall'album di Todd Terje ('It's Album Time').
Non so dove sono andati a recuperare questo vecchio VHS, ma se vi interessa vendono una Delorean (la macchina di 'Ritorno al futuro' per intendersi). Anni 80 again!

Azari & III - Reckless (With Your Love) official video + Tiga rmx

One of the best act of 2011, canadian duo Azari & III, steps up with the official video of 2009 track 'Reckless (With Your Love)'.



And for the new year (february 12) Turbo label boss Tiga have scheduled the release of new remixes by Riva Starr, Julio Bashmor, Paul Epworth and Tiga itself. On february 19 the self-titled debut album is released in UK.

Here you can listen the Tiga version of 'Reckless', another example of how is sound can be always fresh despite can be similar year by year.

New single for canadian duo Azari & III (Christian Farley and Alphone Lanza), on Tiga's label Turbo Recordings, announcing the self titled debut album, out today.



The release package comes with a nice rework from Dj Sneak (best for me) and also remixes from Maceo Plex, Finger Prince and Borderline.

Gesaffelstein - Conspiracy pt1

La label di Tiga si appresta a festeggiare le 100 release, ma puntiamo l'attenzione sulla numero 99, in cui abbiamo un'altra incredibile produzione firmata dal produttore francese dal nome teutonico Gesaffelstein. Dopo il suo primo EP 'Variations', non perde colpi col nuovo 'Conspiracy', di cui queste tre tracce costituiscono solo la prima parte e ci fanno pensare ad una altrettanto allettante seconda parte.
Nel nuovo EP trovano posto 3 tracce: non saprei decidere quale fra 'Hatred' e 'Aufstand' ha il potere esplosivo più elevato, mentre con 'The Lack Of  Hope' c'è un cambio verso un ritmo meno intenso.
Nel frattempo il nostro Mike Levy sta trovando il tempo per remixare tracce che vanno da Cassius a ZZT. I suoi lavori possono sembrare un po' ripetitivi nei suoni, ma in questo momento gradisco proprio questo suono e ben vengano altri dischi di Gesaffelstein.

Gesaffelstein - Variations EP

Altra bomba uscita il mese scorso è questo EP prodotto da Mike Levy, parigino con questo strano nome che sembra tedesco: Gesaffelstein. Ispirato dalla new wave e dalle produzione della Gigolò, le sue creazioni non suonano per nulla scontate ma molto fresche e vitali.
Il mio pezzo preferito è 'Variations', ma non perdetevi anche 'Atmosphere'.
Label Turbo, quindi ancora Tiga ;)

Tiga - You Gonna Want Me (Hey Today! Remix)

'You Gonna Want Me' è stato un successone per Tiga, forse il pezzo che più lo ha aiutato a crescere in popolarità, dopo che 'Sunglasses At Night' ce lo aveva fatto conoscere.
Hey Today! sono una coppia di dj/produttori di Amburgo, Raik Krause e Robert Nickel, che dopo collaborazioni per etichette come Kitsuné o Bang Gang, hanno raggiunto la famiglia Planet Turbo. Il loro remix dà nuova linfa ai vocals di Tiga che campeggiavano sul retro della copertina del vinile.
